Marie Lannoo

Saskatoon, Saskatchewan,
Canada

Marie Lannoo was born in 1954 in Delhi, Ontario. She studied at the University of Saskatchewan with Otto Rogers, earning her Fine Arts degree in 1980. She continued her art training at the Banff School of Fine Arts (1980) and at several workshops at Emma Lake, Saskatchewan (1981, 1983, 1984, 2000).

Lannoo has been painting full-time since 1984. During the 1980s, Lannoo's paintings were more figurative, but over time, Lannoo has embraced abstraction and complex patterns. Timothy Long, head curator of the MacKenzie Art Gallery in Regina, credits Lannoo with having “reinvigorated the traditions of abstraction that have persisted in Saskatchewan for over four decades.”

Lannoo counts Otto Rogers, Eli Bornstein, Mark Rothko and Zaha Hadid, as well as the Regina Five among her influences.

Lannoo's work has been shown in Canada and the United States. Her paintings are represented in collections such as the Canada Council Art Bank (Ottawa), University of Saskatchewan and the Government of Alberta.

Marie Lannoo lives in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
